Abstract   (13210 Views)

Background:Carpal tunnel syndrome consists of symptoms secondary to median nerve dysfunction in carpal tunnel. Every factor causing decrease in capacity of the canal can trigger the complaints. Squaring of the wrist surface somehow the anteroposterior diameter becomes 750/0 smaller than the mediolateral one, is known as a risk factor.

Purpose:This study intends to determine the relationship between wrist cross-section and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Method & Materials:In this case-control study the wrist cross-section in 120 subjects(60 involved & 60 intact) was measured by caliper. Presence or absence of the syndrome had been justified through electromyography.

Results & Conclusion:The results indicated that the ratio of the anteroposterior diameter to transverse one in the affected and the control groups were 0/67 ± 0/42 and 0/63 ± 0/51 respectively. Therefore there is a significant difference of 50/0 representing the relation of carpal tunnel syndrome with the wrist cross-section.
