Aims: The study was conducted to describe the attitudes and analyze some related factors of primary caregivers toward rehabilitation for people with disabilities in rural areas of Vietnam.
Instrument & Methods: A cross-sectional study of 219 primary caregivers of people with disabilities was conducted from December 2017 to July 2018 in a rural area of Thai Nguyen province, Vietnam. Purposive sampling was used in the study.
Findings: The primary caregivers of people with disabilities were primarily people aged ≥50 years old (55.7%), female (67.6%), Tay ethnic group (56.6%), had a secondary school education (43.4%), worked in the fields (75.3%), and were often the father or mother of the person with disabilities (34.7%). The classification of the attitudes of the primary caregivers of people with disabilities as good was 70.8%, average was 16.9%, and poor was 12.3%. Ethnicity was associated with attitudes towards the rehabilitation of caregivers of people with disabilities (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The attitude towards the rehabilitation of primary caregivers of people with disabilities is positive. Ethnicity is related to the attitude toward the rehabilitation of primary caregivers of people with disabilities.
